Hot Lunch and Your Money –        High School Families

As your students go from middle school to high school they will see that the hot lunch program offers more options. Along with the main meal, we have 'a la carte at breakfast and also at lunch. If they prefer, students may choose a chef salad in place of the main entrée. Each student is offered the main meal, which is $1.85 for elementary and $1.90 for MS/HS, or they may have just the 'a la carte entrée and a milk for the same price. For the students who qualify for free or reduced meals, they need to have money put into their accounts for any 'a la carte items. The 'a la carte items are not offered as a free or reduced meal. Students may borrow for 'a la carte from another student but not for a lunch.

The high school cafeteria offers breakfast for 1.05. Free and reduced high school students can eat breakfast in the high school cafeteria as well. There are also 'a la carte breakfast items to buy. For breakfast we offer milk, cereal, muffins, bagels, healthy snacks, fruit, yogurt, water, juices, and Gatorade. For dinner we offer the same 'a la carte items, without the muffins, bagels or cereal.

We are asking that all students keep money in their account. No meal will be offered to anyone with a negative balance in his or her account. Students are given an early notice ($10 per student) when they are running low on money in their account. This should give them 6 meals to get money into their account. The low balance notice is repeated each time they eat until they go negative. Students should have plenty of time to deposit more money when they first learn their account is getting low.

Students are given a student ID number when they enter school, which is used for both hot lunch and in the library. This number stays with them until they graduate. They learn to keep track of the money in their account and be responsible for keeping money in it. With the cooperation of the students and their parents, hot lunch will run smoothly.
