INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC
2 semesters Elective Grades 9-12 2 credits
The core of the high school instrumental music program is the Concert Band. It performs three major concerts annually, as well as at Commencement, state contest and other ceremonial functions. It concentrates on the finest available high school wind literature, both original and transcribed. All band students participate in this organization. This band takes a major trip every other year.
The other ensembles are: Marching Band, including all students except varsity football players, Pep Band and Jazz Ensemble. In order to participate in these auxiliary organizations, all students must be enrolled in Concert Band.
All students enrolled in instrumental music are required to attend a lesson per six-day cycle which emphasizes the basic fundamentals of instrumental performance.
Many supplemental experiences are available for individual improvement, including All-State Band, Solo and Ensemble Contest, NCIBA Honor Band and college honor band festivals.
