GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS

 

 

1. All students are required to carry a minimum of five (5) subjects each semester and (11) credits for the year.

2. Class requirements in Senior High School (grades 9-12)

A. Physical Education each year a student is enrolled.

B. Six (6) semesters of social studies including:

1. 10th grade--U.S. History

2. 11th grade--two from the following: World Cultures or World History

3. 12th grade--Government and either Economics, Sociology or Human Behavior

C. Seven semesters of English including:

1. 9th grade--English 9

2. 10th grade--English 10

3. 11th grade--Composition and either American Literature, Themes in Literature or World Literature

4. An additional class of a student's choice in grade 10, 11 or 12

D. Four semesters of Natural Science

E. Four semesters of Mathematics

 

3. Graduation requirements: forty-four (44) credits and all required courses.

 

4. All students are urged to stay in school for eight (8) semesters. Anyone planning on graduating early must meet the graduation requirements of the district and must petition, in writing, by November 1 of the junior year for graduation at the end of the sixth semester, or September 1 of the senior year for graduation at the end of the seventh semester. The request for early graduation must give the reason for wanting to graduate early and will be approved by school authorities based on the successful completion of district graduation requirements.

 

5. Credits for courses taken off-campus to make up for courses failed may be used for graduation only if a student is unable to schedule enough courses at the Osage High School. This option is open only to students at the end of their junior year or during the senior year.

 

6. Students may take college courses not offered at Osage High School during their junior and/or senior years. The purpose of these courses are to be for enrichment or academic rigor. College and high school credit will be awarded upon successful completion of such courses. (All regulations governing this opportunity are under the Post-Secondary Enrollment Options Act of the State of Iowa).

 

7. Osage Schools provide Individual Educational Programs or 504 Plans for students with special needs.

 

8. Students may not add any classes after three (3) days of the semester has been completed. Students who drop a course after five (5) days of a semester have been completed will receive an "F" for the course even if the student was receiving a passing grade at the time of withdrawal.

 

9. Seniors may be released for work under the following conditions:

A. Married and supporting a family

B. Living at home and helping support a family because of divorce, death of one of the parents illness of one of the parents, an emergency or hardship in the family.

C. Mothers needed to take care of their families.

 

10. All students who are on E.B.C.E., Ag Related Employment or C.T.E. must take P.E.

 

11. Farm students needed to help with the farm work at home may be released by presenting a request each day they want to be gone. This is to be used only during the planting and harvesting seasons or for an emergency. If students miss more than five days in a quarter they will be required to make up time.
