Course Length:
1 semester
Eligibility: This is a required class for 8th graders
Course Description:
Students will learn the touch-typing method (typing without looking at your hands!), including proper location of fingers in the home-row, keeping eyes on the copy from which you are typing, and proper body position (good posture!). Students will learn the proper format for memos, letters, envelopes, reports, and citing sources. Expectations: Lessons for this class can only be done in room 178 of the High School. The program is not available elsewhere. As a result, there is very little outside homework. (There is some, but mostly at the very beginning of the semester) Students must keep up and turn lessons in on time. If they fall behind, they will be expected to come in outside of class time to get caught up. Skills needed to be successful: A positive attitude, staying on-task, turning lessons in on time, and attention to detail when proofreading are important for getting a good grade. Supplies you need to bring to class every day: Red pen Pencil Calculator Folder and some notebook paper Late work policy: Assignments are due by the end of the class. Turn in your assignments in the tray labeled for your class. Work turned in any time after the end of class is late. As long as you continue to come in outside of class to get caught up you will receive 50% credit for late work. If you have late work, and you fail to come in outside of class time, you will receive a zero on the assignment. Make up work policy: Any assignments that are due on the day you are gone are due immediately upon your return (from an unexpected absence) Assignments assigned on the day you are gone are due no later than two days after you return to school. If you know in advance that you will be gone (i.e. sports, band, other school activities, vacation, etc.) you must get your assignment and make arrangements BEFORE you leave. No make up work will be allowed for unexcused absences. |
